An outbreak of oldtimers?

Recently I noticed that a former respectable figure in the abandonware scene Elwood (of TUOL & The Keep fame) had joined or is contributing to Mr. Creosotes non-stop updating; The Good Old days. This comes after quitting the scene over three years ago, whilst announcing his decision to close the biggest Abandonware ring TUOL, at the time.

Then I tune into The AR yesterday and noticed that Swizzle one of the longest serving members of the community is back filling in updates, even though he is no longer head honcho there.

Proudly enough Abandonware Gazette has seen the likes of people that vanished - reappear, such as; Poorgod (Abandon X Ring), Diskboy (Diskworld, DFL), LuNaTiC (TAG, AbandonRom Paradise) & Mongy (TOAR, AbandonWAR).

Is the power of Abandonware love blooming?

Whether it is or not - I can sure say it's great to see these people return - even for a single post and in addition it's great to see, all the people that stuck around and all the new faces!

On a side note, if there was an Abandonware Awards would people support such a cause once again? Obviously it would have to be overseen by more then just one person.

I demand that you change the name to AwGaz(m).

I'd be in favour of the return of Abandonware Awards. Hopefully there would be enough interest to make it a worthwhile venture.

Tom: Only if you promise to endure a marathon of 'The Jeremy kyle show' whilst we watch it in our pants and vest. No questions asked. ;)

Rik: The thing is though, I think it should be held by three different people which are unrelated to each other in the scene, to oversee it. Furthermore, these three people should be willing to be exempt from Award nominations to avoid allegations of a 'fix' if say one of them, does get nominated.

Well I'm up for another round of the Abandonware Awards.

I've had no recent (2-3years?) with anyone else in the scene so I should be clean to help out.

It's great to see all the older generation of pioneers coming back out from the woodworks, it's been such a long time since I've seen the crew come out, such a good change :)

I'd be ok with overseeing it, since right now anarchy is pretty dormant and wouldn't win anything anyway.

I could probably code up a site for a it if you wanted, also.

Fantastic - I'll be contacting both you guys, so we can get the ball rolling!

awards for what?
The awards were stupid, biased and fixed before, what makes you think they wouldnt be now? The worst was the last one I can remember, the "live" award "show", it was a total joke.
There was a blossoming scene when the "awards" took place before, now, it isnt that way.
As for oldtimers resurfacing, well, it is the fucking internet, people surf all over and comment when they feel like it wherever, nobody really gives a shit anymore.

Hey buddy - I'm shocked at you aggression here. :(

It's not my place to comment on the previous (three?) awards - but if my memory serves me correctly, Diskboy & Neopickaze exempted them selves & their sites from any sort of nomination - so not really sure if that was fixed?

Regarding 'old sceners' your right - this is the Internet, and the people that are no longer active in the 'scene' obviously still use the internet everyday - but I was just stating that it's nice to see them return - because the ideal behind what 'abandonware' is, is nostalgia - no?

The 'quiz' drew in 38 people - that's not bad going, to say this community isn't what it used to be. The 'awards' are far as I'm concern isn't to inflate said persons ego - its appreciation - one of the main motivations for many people. Plus, it'll draw a lot of people together (I hope).

For the record:

I and my sites actually won a numerous ammount of awards but Neo felt that it would look suspicious so I decided to pull out. Thats how straight we are.

I'm bored and university has finished so I stop by every chance I get to see if Mongy has posted bonerINtheBathtub v5.6 yet.

If Mongy wasnt here, none of us would be. FACT.

This place is too slow man, you have to be updating for the people to take part, im bored man, cater for my needs!

Is it safe to eat cold beans from a tin without cooking them? They say baked?

It won't kill you, but why would you want to?

Diskboy - I'm not here for mongy, I'm here to make money; http://awgazette.blogspot.com/refID=tee&shaka :D

I'll be updating tonight or tommorow, but after getting flashed by a speed camera on saturday night, I'm in mourning.

3k: There's no accounting for taste ;)

Don't keep them in the tin once opened, though. Bad things will happen...

I found something quite interesting on a very old scratched up backup CD a little time back, so now I decided to upload these

http://www.abandonwarescene.info

Say hello to Diskworld, Echoring, The Emulation Ring, and The Emulation Source.

As ofcourse I don't have the DBs of these sites so not everything works, most parts broken, but you can still see back to those good days.

Who remembers the main characters in Abandonware, people like PeterID? Whom without, there would be no preservation of old games.

Also Runar5, and G-Prime, Fatal and RogerWilco. All true veterans of Abandonware.

We salute you.

Fo' Sho'! You need new posts here man.

Is this Gazette like one of those free newspapers you get and end up using as toilet paper in emergency situations?

I call dibs on www.abandonware-big-issue.com

NeoPickaze: Yeah - in so many words. But if DFL was here, then AWGaz wouldn't exsist. Just trying to keep the faint pulse of the AW media - pumping.

Isaac: Absolutley fantastic! Great going there. I really think there should be something like that - there has before, but they've always died. Sorta like a scene archive contribution. If you was to excel on that idea, I would contribute and fully support it. It's important we do not forget these sites.

I like these kind of blogs, aw-blog was awesome and so is this, it's nice to have some personality in news.

Isaac said...

The Saint (Vincent), for how I would like to create a community type information site on the History of Abandonware with the likes and parts such as DFL, I just can't do it.

It's one thing for me to buy a domain (30seconds) and upload old folders (another 30seconds), but it's another to create a community oriented site, my current health and job restrict me from doing anything more.

I could lend a hand and give you access to my Dedicated Server and etc for you and others to put hands in to make something, but I wouldn't have a major role in it, sorry :\

Good lord mongy.....didnt the medication work?

The Saint said...

Isaac: To be honest with you man, I wasen't thinking something anywhere as glitzy as DFL or a community site - more like a list cut up into sections of dead sites, just archived - so it can be documented for everyone to see for nostalgia purposes. I think I'll take you up on your offer though, I appreciate it a lot.

Sorry to hear about your health though - I hope your alright and it's nothing to serious?

Isaac said...

Ah, I understand you now.

That I have no problem with, I can devote some time to helping with that :)

My Health is an up and down battle, I have MS; One day I feel great and the next day I feel dead, rollercoaster ride!

Heres my MSN is you would like to add me: trust_no_one81885@hotmail.com < No rush, be good to brainstorm ideas (Also have my email if you don't use MSN)

FWIW, the 2 or 3 (or 4? cant remember) abandonware awards that I was involved in running were never fixed, I was always honest (I vaguely recall being tempted when I lost a category by only 1 vote, but left it as it was).

The dude formerly known as Lunatic (and no, Im not coming back, Im just bored and leaving the country soon so not much to do)
