Abandonware Archive - Part #263

I'd just like to re-hash this topic - following on from Isaac's; site. I'd like to excel on this idea and have you guys contribute if possible. Vohaul (previously of AP) had a pretty good take on this, and not forgetting DFL's - TGARL and thereafter comprehensive archive. We had Plix at AWNU and also TUOL do a mini one.

I'd really like to drum up some support on this.

Anyone on board? Talk to me sweet charlies.

That's it for now, but a is in the making once we get to brainstorming ideas and etc.

I've been away for a week on R&R, but I'm back in the flesh and relaxed.

Basically we just need ideas on what to incorparate into a site, user input; a site that is owned not by one or a moderation team but by the entire community.

I would suggest a Conversation on MSN with several people, but that rarely works out taking into consideration Timezones, work, family and etc.

To anyones who interested to partake and have any thing on their minds for ideas and etc, post em off, doesn't matter how small it is, it just shows a basis for the community site!

Damn, I wish a didn't lost all my old Abandonstuff files years ago :(

* didn't lose ;)

No muaddib, I'd prefer to ignore the correction, I like it with the scottish accent. ;)

Seriously though, I was wondering - say if I had copies or found old sites, what is the moralty issue here, if I wanted to put it up on the 'archive' - I'd obviously email the webbie first to ask if this was permitted, but if there was no way to contact them?

Fuck 'em right? Thought so.

Just put it up... That's what abandonware is all about ;)

I have some old versions of The Joystick around somewhere, and I think some bits from an old version of Classic Trash, but that's about it.

Danny boy, how's it going? Nice to see you here!

So lets start this then; can anyone with anything email either -

zack.kostevc@gmail.com (Isaac)
or
v1nnyy@hotmail.com (myself)

with anything you have in a zip file, with maybe a little description? Lets get this ball rolling, my lovelies!

I have all 7 or 8 or whatever designs of The Abandoned Galaxy (TAG), at least 2 of the designs from AbandonRom Paradise, plus a bunch of my older sites (Abandoned Planet Resources, Classic Site Reviews, AbandonRom Hosting, etc etc) floating around on another computer in another city.

I also have a huge archive of 30-40 sites (some including multiple designs) which I collected in the period just before I shut down TAG, from when I was planning on starting an archive. This includes many of the classic sites from when I first got involved (ie - before almost everyone still involved had come into the scene). From memory, I think I had permission for all of them from the former webmasters.

Unfortunately, I am about to leave the country and wont have access to that computer for at least 6 months. When I eventually get back, if this project is going, I will zip them up and email them across.

Was away for another week again...damnit to hell things keep popping up, just wanna sit back and freaken relax...damn work with those fang dang mobile telephone machines.

Trench through a mass back-log in my Gmail account, I see nothing also.

I have nothing else but those sites that I uploaded and what is in my memory.

6months? Damnit...but heck, some of us old folk will probably still be zooming around the place/web in that time.

God...I hope the Abandonware "Scene" doesn't actually turn into true-formed lost Abandonware.

Isaac.

I'll give you the backup of Abandonia in October :)

I've got so much old crap lying around. Let me see...

HTML (entire sites)
- Everything but Oldgames
- Oreo
- An unused design for Abandongames
- A static test page of the last used Abandonrom design
- Multiple (probably all) Abandoned Places design before the current
- Multiple (not all) BSOD designs before the current
- Tween (needs some TLC to get the PHP working again)
- A working backup of The Oldgame Times + database

SCREENSHOTS
- Denizen (Underdogs' weblog)
- Abandonware Oscars (TUOL Awards)
- El Zoo (Chango's and Onyx's website)

Lemme know if PHP+MySQL is an option, otherwise this is all available.

And yes, I still love oldgames, but I guess I've lost the need to write about them :)

damn, i don't think i have any version of abandonxring anywhere. maybe anom would have it somewhere, but i doubt it. if i dig through, i might be able to find the codes of the pre-lucas-threat version of the joystick somewhere.

anom said...

I don't have any of the stuff we did poorgod :(

I have my very first designs of The Joystick, and a couple in between, but not the coldfusion version :(

This blog seems to have died?

It's alive I tells ya, aliiive!

Voh - if you still interested in donating any of the content listed, I'd really appreciate it man.

Nice to see you posting here, btw!

Unrelated to AW - do you still have that song about tre the monkey anywhere? =o

Demetreaze said...

Trey the Monkey! That song has been stuck in my head for years since Voh linked me to his songs in #danwa.

Oh yeah, after a long absence (Don't wanna talk about it) I'm back on making a design for the Archive, even if most of the project is dead, I'm still got my head down doing a little work on it.

Let's see how it goes.

Isaac.

I'm still away, but am still happy to email stuff when I get back.

But just to answer the question - Jaz, I have no idea. cqde(red) disappeared for a while due to some internet connection issues and some personal issues. By the time both were sorted, he decided he didn't have time/energy/passion for abandonware anymore. He was a wicked guy, prob the best I worked with over the time I was involved.
